Projects for Nature Partnership

Lloyds banking group invests £250,000 to support nature recovery via Projects for Nature

Nature is in decline, and the UK is one of the most nature-depleted countries on Earth. Funding is critical, but the current levels of nature finance are far from the scale needed, leaving a financial gap which needs to be filled. Businesses and other donors want to invest in nature recovery but struggle to find suitable projects.

Projects for Nature aims to connect businesses and other donors with quality nature projects, to help close the nature finance gap and recover the health of our planet. The more involvement, the bigger the impact.

Today Lloyds Banking Group is announced as Project for Nature’s first Founding Business Partner, investing £250,000 to support nature recovery via the Projects for Nature website.

The funds will support three projects across England that support local nature recovery. Delivering landscape scale outcomes, these projects provide more space for nature to thrive - and do so with local community engagement at their heart.

  • Weald to Wave: Working with the Knepp Wildland Foundation, Weald to Wave aims to Create a 100- mile nature recovery wildlife corridor along 3 rivers in Sussex. The project will boost biodiversity, capture carbon and enhance the rural community.

  • Natural flood management in the Lake District: Working with the West Cumbria Rivers Trust, this project will work to reduce flood risk in Keswick through new financing tools that help farmers to establish nature-based projects on their land.

  • National Trust: Working on the Holnicote estate in Somerset, the project aims to develop a wildlife rich landscape with a connected, dynamic and diverse habitat across 12,500 hectares. The project will involve rewilding, managing flood risks and regenerative agriculture practices.

Launched at COP28 by the Secretary of State to align with the government’s Environmental Improvement Plan (EIP),  Projects for Nature is a pioneering partnership with the Council for Sustainable Business, Crowdfunder, and  Accenture—bringing together government, expert bodies, NGOs, businesses, and the public to fund nature.

The partnership leverages the strengths of Crowdfunder Connect, using its crowdfunding technology to bring together the public and business to provide funding and support to vital nature recovery projects across the UK.

Dawn Bebe, Founder & co-CEO at Crowdfunder said:

“Projects for Nature is a critical step towards saving the UK's natural environment before it's too late. This initiative showcases the power of collaboration, combining Crowdfunder’s innovative ‘Connect’ platform with the strengths of government, NGOs, and businesses. Together, we're not just funding nature recovery projects; we're spearheading a movement to protect and restore our precious ecosystems for future generations."

Andrew Walton, Chief Sustainability Officer, Lloyds Banking Group said:

“The UK ranks among the most nature-depleted countries globally, highlighting the pressing need for collective action. As the UK’s largest financial services provider, we recognise the crucial role we must play in tackling the loss of nature to ensure a more resilient and thriving natural environment for the future."

Becoming a founding partner of Projects for Nature will enable us to make a tangible difference to combating nature loss in communities across England, exploring innovative approaches to protect and restore our natural ecosystems, ultimately helping Britain prosper. "
